Kidney meal planning
Build quick kidney-friendly lunches from familiar foods
Lunch can be simple. Start with a recognizable main item—such as a sandwich, wrap, roll-up, pinwheel, salad, or cold pasta salad—and evaluate its ingredients and portion within your personal daily limits.
A repeatable lunch method
- Choose the lunch format you can prepare quickly.
- Select fresh or home-cooked ingredients when possible so you control added sodium and phosphorus.
- Add vegetables, spreads, sauces, and bread or wraps in portions that fit the plan.
- Review the complete ingredient list and the rest of the day.
Sandwiches and subs
Record the bread, filling, vegetables, cheese, condiments, and portion. Deli meats can contain substantial sodium and phosphate additives, so verify labels.
Wraps and pinwheels
A wrap can combine a simple filling with lettuce, cucumber, cabbage, onion, or other ingredients that fit the user’s limits.
Salads
Count dressings, toppings, protein portions, and packaged additions rather than treating the vegetables as the whole meal.
Make lunch faster
Precook and portion components, wash produce ahead of time, and keep approved condiments available. A lunch assembled in minutes can still have a complete ingredient list for Meal Planner 101 to review.
